The regional System Safety offices evaluate the safety of the Aviation
Transportation System and conduct aviation safety promotional activities both within
and outside Transport Canada Civil Aviation. The regional offices
responsibilities include:
- identifying potential safety hazards, advising airline managers;
- collecting and recording data for the purpose of identifying and assessing
risks;
- performing safety visits and safety reviews for both users and providers of the
air transportation system;
- gathering information for the Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System -
CADORS (reports of abnormal occurrences within the Region);
- monitoring CADORS monthly for trends that indicate potential system problems;
- appointing a Ministers Observer to liaise with the Transportation Safety
Board of Canada on all accident investigations being investigated by the
Transportation Safety Board of Canada;
- supplying the aviation community with a wide variety of safety information from
an extensive inventory of safety brochures and posters, and with the availability of
video loan libraries; and
- identifying those people and organizations most susceptible to aviation risks
and directing appropriate safety messages to them.
