Some of the evacuation orders in Prince George, B.C., were lifted at 5 p.m. Monday after officials declared it was safe for people to return to 36 condominium homes, a school and 12 businesses in the North Nechako Road area.

Kevin Brown, a liaison officer for the city, said crews assessed the structures in the area impacted by flooding caused by an ice jam on the Nechako River.
"Those assessments concluded it's now safe to have [the] people reoccupy their homes and businesses," Brown told CBC News Monday afternoon.
But areas along North Nechako Road, Ongman Road and McAloney Road remain under an evacuation alert, he said.

Meanwhile, about 25 homes and businesses along River Road and Prince George Pulpmill Road are still flooded out.
Officials continue to build dikes and are getting prepared to pump water from washed out roads.
Officials said the ice jam was remaining steady at about two kilometres long as of Monday evening.
Over the weekend, crews raised the height of the riverbank with gabion dikes — mesh cages of wire and plastic filled with dirt — and built dirt and snow berms to hold back the river. Pumps were being installed to dry out areas behind the dikes.
Public Safety Minister John Les also said over the weekend that flooded residents without insurance will be eligible for emergency financial assistance.
