The following is a list of publications and reports developed by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB).

OSB Publications Order Form
The OSB offers many publications free of charge. Anyone wishing to obtain a copy or copies of any of our publications can use the attached form. We have also attached a brief description of each publication.

Bankruptcy Statistics
These statistics outline consumer and business bankruptcies, receiverships and proposals. They include national, provincial and urban-centre statistics, and statistical charts that you can use to undertake trend analysis, compare years or obtain national profiles.

Insolvency Case Law Digest 2005 - 2006
The Insolvency case Law Digest contains summaries of many court decisions in insolvency matters. Available in bilingual format.

Business Insolvency in Canada: a National and Regional Analysis for the Period 1987-2005
This document offers a descriptive analysis of the changes in business insolvencies in Canada and its 6 major regions for the period 1987-2005. We will also look at business insolvency in the 8 major economic sectors. The analysis deals with different aspects of business insolvencies, such as changes in the number of insolvency filings, the principal insolvency procedures, types of businesses, the incidence of business insolvency and the declared liabilities in business insolvency files.

Insolvency Case Law Digest 2004
This document contains over 50 summaries of court decisions rendered in 2004, by different courts in Canada, in bankruptcy and insolvency matters.

OSB Newsletter
A listing of OSB newsletters for the past four years. The newsletters contain news, announcements and information concerning the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy as well as bankruptcy and insolvency issues.

Youth Financial Awareness
Debtor education is not part of the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy's regulatory mandate but it is one of our core values. We continue to seek innovative ways to educate people about the pitfalls of debt.

A Macroeconomic Model for Analysing and Forecasting Levels of Business and Consumer Insolvency in Canada
The main purpose of this document is to improve our understanding of the macroeconomic factors responsible for the increase in insolvency in Canada so as to be more able to predict how this will change in the future. On the basis of the existing literature, the authors developed one model for consumer insolvency and another for business insolvency.

Management Advisory Board, Chairman's Report - March 2005
This report is prepared by the Chairman of the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy's Management Advisory Board.  It summarizes the board's activities for the period of January 2004 to March 2005.

Management Advisory Board, Chairman's report, December 2003
A report made by the Chairman of the OSB's Management Advisory Board (MAB) describing the activities of the board since its inception in 1998. The MAB acts as a source of external advice and guidance for the OSB with regard to its strategies, business plans and management practices.

Impact of the Amendments to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act Concerning Division I and II Proposals as They Relate to Dividends Paid to the Unsecured Creditors
One of the primary objectives of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act reforms of 1992 and 1997 concerning Division I and II proposals was to encourage consumer and business proposals as an alternative to bankruptcy. This report describes how those legislative reforms have affected dividends paid to unsecured creditors.

Results of the Trustee Survey, 2002 (PDF Format)
This document describes the results of a survey conducted by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy in which trustees were asked which programs and services they consider important. It also asked for opinions regarding the OSB's performance in the delivery of these programs.

All About Bankruptcy Mediation
Creditors and debtors alike have the right to ask for mediation to settle certain kinds of disputes related to a bankruptcy. This brochure provides basic information about the mediation process.
