Published OrdersWhen it is suspected that an aquatic living organism is “toxic”[1], control measures may be imposed to minimize any risk to the environment or human health. These control measures are published in the Canada Gazette. "Waivers" may also be published for any of the prescribed information requested by notifiers to be waived. The following are the five groups of Canada Gazette publications: [1] In accordance with section 64 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, a substance is toxic if it is entering or may enter the environment in a quantity or concentration or under conditions that (a) have or may have an immediate or long-term harmful effect on the environment or its biological diversity; (b) constitute or may constitute a danger to the environment on which life depends; or (c) constitute or may constitute a danger in Canada to human life or health. |
