Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Bryan McCabe will be sidelined six to eight weeks following Monday's surgery on his left hand.
McCabe, 32, broke three bones in the hand when he was checked into the boards by forward Andrei Kostitsyn 8:32 in the third period of last Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.

"It was not a clean play," Maple Leafs head coach Paul Maurice said.
McCabe has four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 27 games this NHL season and, more importantly, is averaging 26 minutes, 33 seconds in ice time.
"There aren't many 30-minute players around," Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle said.
McCabe has totalled 114 goals and 407 points in 890 games over 12 NHL seasons with the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks and Maple Leafs.
The St. Catharines, Ont., native was drafted in the second round (40th overall) by New York in 1993.
In a related move, Anton Stralman was recalled from the AHL's Toronto Marlies to replace McCabe on the roster.
Stralman, 21, failed to register a point in seven games with the Maple Leafs earlier this season, but posted 11 assists in 21 games for the Marlies.
