GOVERNMENT OF CANADA PROCEEDS WITH IMPROVEMENTS TO MAIN BROOK AND RODDICKTON WHARVES
MAIN BROOK, NL – The Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced that Transport Canada is proceeding with maintenance upgrades totaling $175, 250 to the Main Brook and Roddickton Wharves on the Northern Peninsula.
A contract was awarded to Floyd's Construction Limited of Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland to replace timber bracings and install pile sleeves to the Main Brook Wharf, while Highland Construction of Pasadena, Newfoundland was awarded a contract to replace timber bracings and ladders, grout cleat blocks and the concrete deck, as well as install new wheelguards, fenders and chocks at the Roddickton site.
"This work will ensure that both sites are maintained and meet the basic operational requirements," said Minister Hearn. "We want to ensure that those accessing these sites do so safely."
"Maintaining all of our operating port facilities in a safe condition for Canadians is a key priority for our Government," said Minister Cannon.
Work for both sites is underway with a planned completion date of mid-December.
