APPOINTMENTS TO THE PACIFIC PILOTAGE AUTHORITY

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointments of Ms. Lorraine S. Cunningham and Captain James Ian MacPherson to the board of directors of the Pacific Pilotage Authority.

"I am very pleased that Ms. Cunningham, an experienced marine industry manager and former member of the Authority, and Captain MacPherson, an experienced marine pilot; have agreed to serve on the board for the next three years," said Minister Cannon. "Their combined knowledge and expertise will be tremendous assets for the Pacific Pilotage Authority."

Ms. Cunningham is president of Cunningham Investment Group Inc. She is responsible for the on-going management and direction of this family-owned investment group, which operates ship brokerage, ship agency and forest products manufacturing companies. Ms. Cunningham attended the University of British Columbia for three years and participated in the Management Residency Program at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. Ms. Cunningham was a member of the Vancouver Port Advisory Committee, and is currently chair of the Business Families Centre at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. She also serves on the dean's faculty advisory board, the Young Presidents' Organization/World Presidents' Organization and the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise. Ms. Cunningham served on the board of directors of the Pacific Pilotage Authority from 1999-2005.

Captain MacPherson is a licensed marine pilot on the B.C. Coast, who began his marine career as seaman on a deepsea vessel in 1970. From 1974 to 1977, he attended Camosun College in Victoria, B.C. earning his mates and then his masters certificates. Captain MacPherson has served as seaman and deck officer on various types of vessels, to master of coastal and harbour tugs. Over the course of his career, he has received advanced training in manned models in Grenoble, France and Ilawa, Poland. He has also taken courses in bridge resource management (BRM) integrated bridge systems (IBS) and Azipods, as well as advanced ship handling in Newport, Rhode Island; Dania, Florida; and Seattle, Washington. Captain MacPherson is past-president of the BC Coast Pilots Ltd., currently active in the BC Coast Pilots Ltd., a member of the Canadian Merchant Service Guild, the Canadian Marine Pilots Association and the International Marine Pilots Association.

The Pacific Pilotage Authority is a Crown corporation created in 1972 under the Pilotage Act. It operates and maintains safe and effective marine pilotage and related services in the coastal waters of British Columbia, including the Fraser River.
