At Continuing Airworthiness our team of
corrective action engineers,
specialist engineers,
technical inspectors,
information program editors and associated technical support staff take the corrective action
necessary to resolve in-service aircraft airworthiness issues. This is achieved in part by the development,
issuance and distribution of
Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and the approval of
Alternative Means of Compliance (AMOC). We operate a system of information gathering and analysis for
every matter or incident where airworthiness is brought into question. One way we achieve this, is
through the Service Difficulty
Reporting (SDR) program. This information is disseminated to the aviation community through
our information programs
section in such publications as
Airworthiness
Notices (ANs) ,
Service Difficulty Alerts,
Service Difficulty Advisories, and the Quarterly FEEDBACK flyer. We co-ordinate
Aircraft Certification Branch review of Transportation Safety Board (TSB) recommendations and advisories
and coroners recommendations to identify the need for Transport Canada airworthiness action. Review of
applicable manufacturer's service bulletins, domestic manufacturers notices to operators and foreign
Airworthiness Directives ensures consistency with Canadian requirements and identifies, where required,
the need for Transport Canada continuing airworthiness action. Management of the Transport Canada
Aging Aircraft Program,
Continuing Airworthiness Web Information System (CAWIS), and the Annual
Airworthiness Information Reporting System (AAIR) is also within our mandate.
