Location:

The Detroit - Windsor Tunnel spans the Detroit River and carries international traffic between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan.  For easy access to and from all major highways, the tunnel has been the right border choice since 1930.  In the U.S., this tunnel links easily with I-75 north and south (Ohio to Florida); I-94 east and west (Port Huron to Chicago) and the Lodge Freeway (M-10).  In Canada, enjoy easy access to Highway 401 (Chatham, London, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Kingston, Ottawa and Montreal).
Description: It has one lane in each direction and there are 9 primary customs auto inspection booths and 3 commercial customs booths on the Canadian side.  The Detroit - Windsor Tunnel is approximately 1.60 km (1 mi.) long from portal to portal.  The American portal is located a few hundred feet from downtown Detroit while the Canadian end is located in the heart of Windsor's business district.

Statistics:

Approximately 27,000 to 29,000 vehicles pass through the tunnel on a daily basis; The tunnel handles over nine million vehicles per year, of which 95% are cars and 5% are trucks.
