History: |
After years of lobbying by local residents for a bridge in the area, in 1950 the Ogdensburg Bridge Authority was created by the State of New York. Legislation was passed in 1952 in Canada to create a similar Canadian corporation. In 1957, the Canadian Ogdensburg Bridge Authority ceased to function and assigned its rights to the American Bridge Authority. Work began in 1957, and the bridge finally opened for traffic on September 21, 1960.
