This bridge connects Highway 420 to Queen Elizabeth Way and Highway 20 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Routes 62, 384 and Robert Moses Parkway to Interstate 190 in Niagara Falls, New York State.

Description:

Total Length of Steel Work:  442 m
(1,450 ft.)

Height over River:  62 m (202 ft.)

Roadway:  two 7.3 m (24 ft.) roadways, four lanes separated by a 1.2 m (4 ft.) centre mall

Sidewalks: one on south side-width 3 m
(10 ft.)

Weight of Structural Steel and Decking:
9,000 metric tons (9,920.80 U.S. tons)

Legislation:

The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) is a public benefit corporation of the United States created by a joint resolution of Congress on June 16, 1938, with the authority to construct, maintain and operate a bridge across the Niagara River in co-operation with the Government of Ontario.  Corresponding legislation for the creation of the NFBC has never been passed in Canada.  The NFBC was given permission to build the Rainbow Bridge by making an application under the Canada Navigable Waters Act.

Restrictions:

No commercial traffic is allowed across the bridge, although buses and non-commercial trucks may use it.
