St. Andrews Lock and Dam connects Provincial Highway No. 44 on the east and west sides of the Red River. It is located in Lockport, Manitoba which is 27 km (16.77 mi.) downstream from Winnipeg. |
Description: |
St. Andrews Lock and Dam is comprised of five major components: a lock, a dam, a two lane traffic bridge along the top of the dam, a fish ladder and 8.9 hectares (22 acres) of park land. The dam is 218.8 m (717.85 ft.) in length, with an additional bay over the navigation lock. The old bascule lift span was replaced in 1993 with a new through truss. The water level is held by Camere type wood lath curtains rolled over steel frames which hang from the lower chord of the steel truss. |
