Description: |
This bridge consists of 33 concrete piers, 2 abutments carrying 2 way road traffic of 4.2 m (13.77 ft.) wide each. The bridge is approximately 936 m (3,070.86 ft.) long, consisting of 29 fixed spans and a vertical lift span of 62 m (203.41 ft.) long. |
History: |
The fixed span was built in 1932 and the lift span was built in 1958. The fixed span was built by the Beauharnois Light, Heat and Power Company while the power canal and the lift span was built by the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority at the time of construction of the shipping locks. A new deck for the lift span and new fixed spans were completed in 2000.
