USDA DELAYS REMOVAL OF EXEMPTIONS FROM INSPECTION AND USER FEE REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADA

 

WASHINGTON: Nov. 17, 2006 – Canadian truckers got a bit of breathing space today when the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Inspection Service announced it is delaying the effective date and establishing staggered implementation for the collection of user fees for inspections of Canadian-grown fruits and vegetables, commercial vessels, trucks, railroad cars and aircraft, as well as international passengers entering the United States from Canada.

CANADA’S NEW GOVERNMENT INVESTS $42 MILLION FOR MARINE SECURITY PROJECTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

MONTREAL - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced that 386 projects aimed at enhancing security at Canadian ports and marine facilities will receive funding under the Marine Security Contribution Program, and that Transport Canada is now accepting applications under the program’s next round of funding.

US AGRICULTURAL FEE COLLECTION PROCEDURES ANNOUNCED

But rule should be withdrawn, according to Canadian Trucking Alliance

 

Nov. 3, 2006 - US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) today outlined the procedures it plans to put in place at the land border to collect agricultural inspection fees beginning November 24.  The highly controversial fee, which was recently announced by the US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (a branch of the US Department of Agriculture), is designed to pay for inspections of loads in search of fruits, vegetables and flowers entering the US which are labeled as products of Canada but originate elsewhere. As a result, the single crossing rate for trucks will more than double to US$10.25 and the annual transponder cost will rise to US$205.  All trucks, regardless of domicile and commodity carried, will be required to pay.

CBP BEGINS ROLL-OUT OF MANDATORY ACE E-MANIFEST

Carriers, US Custom Brokers must be ready for January 25, 2007 at Washington, North Dakota Ports, Others to Follow

 

October 27, 2006 – Today, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced in the Federal Register the first phase of mandatory compliance with the ACE truck e-manifest. Effective January 25, 2007 carriers crossing at all US ports of entry in the states of Washington and Arizona, as well as the ports of Pembina, Neche, Walhalla, Maida, Hannah, Sarles, and Hansboro in North Dakota, will be required to comply with ACE.
