Farley Mowat

Watch this episode (RealVideo runs 22:43)

For 60 years, controversial Canadian author Farley Mowat has raged against humankind's cavalier treatment of nature's resources. In more than 40 books he has documented, among other things, the cruel treatment of the Innu people and the animals of the north as well as the rape of the Atlantic ocean by fishing nations.

Mowat was "green" long before the notion became fashionable. Now, the iconic Mowat has taken a page from his own book. At age 86 and in the late autumn of his life, he is donating his oceanfront property in Cape Breton to the Nova Scotia Nature Trust - his way of protecting all the living things on his 70 hectares of land.

Do as I do and as I say - the story of Farley Mowat's environmental legacy.
