Police have charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder after his ex-girlfriend and her mother were attacked in their Dartmouth home Friday.
Halifax Regional Police say Jonathan Rees will be arraigned on more charges once he's out of the hospital.
A 46-year-old woman called 911 at 12:42 a.m. to report a man had broken into her house on Topsail Blvd. and attacked both her and her 18-year-old daughter.
The man smashed the rear door, said Const. Jeff Carr, "and he proceeded to assault the daughter and assault the mother with some kind of a weapon."
All three were injured when officers arrived, police say, and they were all taken to hospital. Police say the two women had head injuries. It's unclear what injuries Rees has and how he sustained them.
The daughter remains in hospital, while her mother has been released.
Rees is in hospital under police guard. Police say once his condition improves, he'll appear in court on the following charges:
- Attempted murder.
- Break and enter.
- Aggravated assault.
- Assaulting police.
- Breaching probation.
- Breaching a recognizance.
