Imagine how a night on the town can quickly turn into a nightmare.

You're walking home when all of a sudden you're stopped. Maybe it's one thug, or 10. Maybe there's a knife. Maybe there's a ride in an ambulance.

We seem to be hearing more stories of swarmings and attacks in downtown Halifax.

But is the city really a violent and dangerous place? Are there really more assaults now than in years past? How likely are you to become a victim?

You told us your stories and shared your thoughts, then we set out on our own Night on the Town to find out.

Starting Feb. 19, join us for a special series about violence in downtown Halifax on CBC Television and Radio, and right here online.

We'll hear from one man whose walk home ended in terror, and how it changed his life.

What do police have to say? We spend a night walking the beat with officers and find out what they have to deal with.
