The provincial Liberals want to resurrect the Nova Scotia Arts Council, an organization dismantled four years ago by the Tories.
Liberal MLA Stephen McNeil got a round of applause from members of the arts community Friday when he reintroduced a bill to bring back the council as an independent funding body.
Jane Buss is with the Writers federation of Nova scotia...she too would like to see a return to the council, but doesn't think the issue is nessessarliy about money. In fact she say the debate has been dangeroulsy oversimplified.

In 2002, the province of Nova scotia padlocked the offices of the Nova Scotia arts coincil. The organization had a 1.5 million dollars budget. It spend almost $400,000 of it, close a third, on administration costs.
At the time Rodney MacDonald, the minister, said he wanted the money to go into the hands of artists
Today some artists are calling for a return to the organization. The liberals have brought legislation to government to do that..
