Citizens wishing to dispose of their Christmas tree can do so by:
- bringing it to the Westmorland-Albert Solid Waste Corporation on Berry Mills Road.
- place it on the curbside on their regular garbage night between January 7 to 12
- drop it off at one of the following sites until January 12: ball field of Crawley Farm Road, Former Dud James Arena, Moncton Coliseum, Mapleton Park, Wesleyan Church parking lot, Fairview Knoll playground.

  • January 16, 3 to 4 pm - Hackmatack Children's Choice Book Award*.  This club is for children in grades 4 to 6.
  • January 16 to February, 10:30am - Toddler Tales*.  Storytime for children aged 18 months to three years and their caregivers.

The works of Blandine Arsenault, of Dieppe, will be on display at the Moncton Public Library throughout the month of January.

Baby Sign for Hearing Babies


South-East Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services is holding a baby sign class for hearing babies in January.
This class teaches simple sign language for babies aged infant to one year old and for toddlers aged one to two years.
The classes run for 6 weeks.

The Talk With Me program is hosting a session called Learning Language & Loving It on Monday, January 7 for parents and caregivers.

Toddler Time at the Moncton Public Library


The Moncton Public Library is introducing a new program called Toddler Time.
The program will run on Thursdays at 9:30am from January 24 to February 28, and on Saturdays at 9:30am from January 26 to March 1.
The sessions will run from 20 to 30 minutes and will offer stories, songs, fingerplays and crafts for children ages 18 months to 3 years and their parent/caregiver.

Storytime at the Moncton Public Library


The Moncton Public Library is offering Preschool Storytime for children ages 3 to 5.
The program runs Tuesdays at 10:30am from January 22 to February 26 and on Thursdays at 10:30am from January 24 to February 28.
The sessions last 30 minutes and offer stories, songs, fingerplays and crafts.
Registration begins January 8 and you can register by visiting the library or calling 869.6036.

Students and their parents are invited to an information session at ABU on Tuesday, January 8 from 7 to 8:30pm.
The session will include a campus tour, a question and answer session and the chance to meet various faculty and staff.

Far Out East Cinema


Far Out East Cinema screens a new movie every week in the Jacqueline Bouchard Building at l'Université de Moncton.
The same movie plays on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 8pm.

The Riverview Public Library is offering a new session of story times starting on Friday, January 25.
Tales for Twos will run on Friday morning from 10am to 10:30am.
This session will offer stories, songs, and crafts for two year olds and their parent/caregivers.
Children must be two as of the program start date.

Time for Tykes


The Riverview Public Library is offering a new session of story times starting on Friday, January 25.
Time for Tykes will run on Friday morning from 11am to 11:30am.
Children who participated in the session prior to Christmas will be required to put their names on a waiting list in order to accommodate new children.
Children must be three as of January 1 and must be mature enough to stay in the story time room alone for the duration of the program.

The monthly meeting of the Lions Seniors Club is being held on Wednesday, January 9 at 3pm.
The meeting will be followed by a pot luck supper and entertainment.

Brain Tumour Support Group Meeting


The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada's Adult Support Group is meeting on Wednesday, January 9 from 7 to 8:30pm.
The meeting will take place in room 6A of the Moncton Hospital.
Eric Grandmaison, a neuro psychologist, is the guest speaker.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity for people with brain tumors and their loved ones to share experiences, address personal issues and gain emotional support.

A French fiction book club is being held at the Moncton Public Library on the second Thursday of each month.

  • Thursday, February 14 at 6:30 pm.  The book chosen is Et pourtant elle chantait by Pauline Gill

Soundwaves at the East Coast Music Awards


Soundwaves is a program aimed at all students in New Brunswick who can apply to compete for a chance to perform at the 2008 ECMAs.
The competition will take place from January 28 to February 1.
Winners will be selected to open for bands performing at the EMCAs, attend certain workshops at the EMCA conference, get studio time, and will receive tickets to shows.
The deadline for submitting your application is Thursday, January 11 and it must include a one-page band bio and a digitally recorded audio track (video is optional).

Playfull Renardi back in Dieppe


Playfull Renardi is a recreational program that offers story telling, arts and crafts, and theme days to preschoolers aged 3 to 5.
The sessions will begin on Friday, January 11 and Saturday, January 12, and finish on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.
Registration will take place at Dieppe City Hall on Thursday, January 3 from 7:30am to 2pm, Friday, January 4 from 12 to 2pm (both session for residents only), and on Monday, January 8 from 12 to 2pm for non-residents.

Luc Charette exhibition at New Brunswick Museum


The works of Moncton artist Luc Charette will be displayed in a new series of solo exhibitions at the New Brunswick Museum.
Charette creates installations which incorporate photographs, video, sound and industrial material to explore popular culture and the impact of technology.
The exhibition will open on January 12.

The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra is performing a public concert on Sunday, January 13 at 2pm.

L'Université de Moncton is offering a pass to see four shows among those on the upcoming schedule.
Students pay $25 for the pass, and non-students pay $50.

Family and Community and Volunteer Awards


The Department of Social Development is accepting nominations for the Family and Community Volunteer Awards.
The deadline for nominations is February 9.
Winners in each of the four categories will receive $1,000 to be donated to a non-profit organization of their choice.
The awards are given out in four categories: youth, adult, senior and organization.

Chefs for UNICEF


The Chefs for UNICEF fundraising dinner is being held on Saturday, February 23 at the Fairmont Algonquin in St. Andrews.
This year's dinner will feature dishes from around the world, including cuisine from Mexico, Asia, Greece, and of course, the Maritimes.
The reception starts at 6pm and dinner will be served at 7:30pm.
CBC's Paul Castle, Host of Shift, and Christianne Vachon-Horgan will be hosting the event.

Animaritime is the only anime and gaming convention in the Atlantic.
The convention features Japanese culture, and gaming entertainment.
Animaritime is being held at the Delta Beauséjour from March 7 to March 9.
