NPRI 2006 Reviewed Data Release(Data as of November 4, 2007) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the NPRI are available here. Reviewed NPRI data for 2006 is now available. Analysis of this data highlights expanded tracking of industrial pollution in Canada, and an overall downward trend in pollutant releases from NPRI reporting facilities. The number of facilities reporting to the NPRI has increased significantly from less than 1,800 in 1996, to over 9,000 for 2006. The number of substances listed on the NPRI increased from 176 to over 300 in the same period. Compared with 1996, long-term reporting facilities reported an overall decrease in pollutant releases to air, water and land. Pollutant releases from some facilities have increased, however, such as many in resource extraction industries.
