- 1970: Vice-Premier Chiang Ching-kuo escapes assassination attempts by pro-independence activists during a visit to the U.S.
- 1976: Taiwan Governor Hsieh Tung-min loses a hand and an eye in a letter-bomb attack by pro-independence activist Wang Hsing-nan. Hsieh becomes vice-president. Wang is sentenced to life in prison, paroled in 1990 and elected to parliament.
- 1984: Taiwanese gangsters murder Chinese-American author Henry Liu at his home in Daly City, Calif. Liu wrote a biography critical of President Chiang Ching-kuo. Three senior intelligence officers were jailed for their connections to the killing.
- 1997: Gunmen break into the home of Liu Pany-yu, chief of the county of Taoyuan. They shoot Liu and eight others in the head at close range. The gunmen have never been captured.
- March 19, 2004: President Chen Shui-bian and Vice-President Annette Lu are injured after being shot at during the presidential election campaign. Chen is hit in the stomach and Lu in the right leg.
