Four people died and 16 others were injured in separate road accidents across Quebec so far this holiday season.
The Quebec provincial police, the Sûreté du Québec, said Tuesday a 20-year-old man was killed around 4 a.m. in a violent head-on collision in Victoriaville, about 150 kilometres northeast of Montreal.
Joyce Kemp, a spokeswoman for the force, said speeding and alcohol were probably a factor in the crash.
Kemp said the force of the impact tore the man's car in half.
She said two people in the other vehicle also sustained injuries.
In Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, east of Montreal, city police said an 18-year-old man was killed Monday in a head-on collision just before midnight.
Police spokesman Martin Anctil said the driver likely lost control of his car due to slippery conditions. His car struck the other vehicle, also driven by an 18-year-old man.
Anctil said the man was treated for injuries.
On Monday afternoon, eight people were injured in an accident in Saint-Tite-des-Caps, about 60 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.
The provincial police said two of the victims were in critical condition.
Earlier on Monday, a 34-year-old mother was killed in a head-on collision in Brownsburg-Chatham, north of Montreal.
Provincial police said five people were injured in the accident, including the woman's three children, ages 10 to 15. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Meanwhile, in Laval, police said a man died at the wheel of his vehicle Monday evening. They suspect he suffered a heart attack.
