Madonna will make her debut as a filmmaker with a short set to premiere at February's Berlin International Film Festival, organizers announced Thursday.

The recording star, actress and children's book author has added director to her burgeoning list of career credits with the 48-minute short film Filth and Wisdom, which she filmed in and around London this past spring.
Madonna's film will be presented as part of the festival's Panorama program, which showcases art-house cinema from around the world.
Other films in the Panorama lineup include Otto; or; Up with Dead People by Toronto-based writer, photographer and filmmaker Bruce LaBruce; Taiwanese filmmaker Zero Chou's Drifting Flowers and Transsiberian, the latest film by The Machinist director Brad Anderson.
Madonna will also compete for the Panorama Audience Awards, an audience-voted honour that will be presented Feb. 17 — the final day of the 11-day festival.
Organizers of the Berlin festival — considered one of the world's most prestigious — have already announced that the films it will screen at the upcoming edition include Paul Thomas Anderson's oil epic There Will Be Blood and Errol Morris's Abu Ghraib documentary S.O.P. (Standing Operating Procedure).
Canadian director Guy Maddin is among the Canadians headed to the festival, with his quirky hometown homage My Winnipeg set to open the event's Forum section of avant-garde and experimental films.
