A five-year-old who was not wearing a seatbelt was lucky to survive a vehicle rollover with only a few stitches, police say.
Eleven people, including the youngster, were treated for minor injuries after the 15 passenger van they were in rolled over east of Prince George.
"It's a small miracle that this five-year-old was not thrown from the vehicle or hurt more," said RCMP Constable Craig Douglass. "The vehicle flipped over, once completely, and landed back on its wheels."
Speeding is the likely cause behind the crash, said Douglass.
"This van was overtaking another vehicle," said Douglass. "That vehicle was travelling approximately the speed limit, so that tells us the man was likely going faster than the speed limit."
Alcohol and drugs were not a factor, said Douglass, but charges are pending and he warned drivers to slow down, as road conditions are unpredictable at this time of year.
