The Halifax airport is bracing for a dark and stormy night.
A second snow crew will be called in to the Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport later Thursday, said an airport spokesman.
"When this weather does hit us, we should be as prepared as we can be," said Peter Spurway, with the Halifax International Airport Authority.
Environment Canada has issued storm and snowfall warnings for a large part of Nova Scotia. Most inland regions can expect about 15 centimetres of snow and ice pellets, while areas farther east can expect 30 centimetres.
Strong winds are also expected in the northern and eastern regions, creating possible whiteout conditions.
Spurway said airport officials met with representatives from the airlines Thursday morning and any decisions about flights will depend on runway conditions over the next few hours.
As of noon, no flights were cancelled.
This is the fifth winter storm of the season. Last winter, there were just five storms at the Halifax airport.
Hundreds of passengers found themselves stranded at the airport after a snowstorm hit Dec. 16, forcing airlines to keep their planes on the ground.
