Bernard St-Laurent is the host of CBC Radio One’s C’est La Vie, which he co-created in 1998. Heard Fridays on CBC Radio One, this award-winning national program about life in French-speaking Canada explores areas such as media, arts and culture, sports and business.
The veteran broadcaster is also the host of Homerun, an eclectic program that provides listeners in Montreal with basic, news, weather and traffic information at the end of the workday. The program explores everything from the latest in politics to the latest in the worlds of art, science, business, music and entertainment- all the joys and challenges of city life!
St-Laurent also provides political analysis on Au Courant, CBC Newsworld’s weekly television program about life in French Canada, hosted by Mitsou Gélinas.
For nearly 30 years St-Laurent has covered all the major political events in Quebec from the election of the Parti Quebecois in 1976 to the 1995 referendum and the re-election of the PQ government in 1998. He has also been assignment editor and senior political editor for CBC television in Quebec from 1991 to 1994.
St-Laurent started with CBC in 1981, opening CBC Radio's bureau in the Eastern Townships and working as a CBC Radio National Assembly Reporter. He left the CBC in 1987, but returned once again in 1991 as Assignment Editor for CBC Newswatch. He has been National Reporter for Radio News since 1994.
As guest host on numerous national radio current affairs programs and news specials, St-Laurent has been heard on The Current, Sounds Like Canada, As It Happens, The House and Cross Country Checkup, and on local Montreal programs Radio Noon, Homerun, All in a Weekend and Daybreak.
Before joining CBC, St-Laurent was a political columnist for the Montreal Gazette and executive producer for Météomedia /the Weather Network in 1989 and 1990, and from 1988 to 1990 he was city editor and columnist at Montreal Daily News. In addition, St-Laurent taught broadcast journalism at Concordia University in Montreal for several years.
