The Calgary Flames look for a first win over their division nemesis while the Vancouver Canucks are hoping that history repeats when the Northwest rivals clash on Thursday night. (CBC, 10 p.m. ET).
Calgary (17-13-7) lost a pair of overtime games at home just before the Christmas break after going on a 6-0 tear on a lengthy road trip.
Should the Flames win in Vancouver on Thursday, they will match a franchise record with seven consecutive road wins.
But the club is more concerned about earning a win against a club that has beaten them all three times this season.
"It's not just the two points, it's momentum," captain Jarome Iginla told the Calgary Sun. "Beating rivals — they're one of our biggest rivals — it probably helped them get some momentum. But we'll start with one game in Vancouver."
Vancouver, meanwhile, beat Calgary on Dec. 26 last season, which began a 32-8-6 stretch that turned around their season after a poor start.
The Canucks (21-13-2) have won all three meetings with the Flames this season, receiving offensive contributions throughout their lineup, contributions that have been missing on many other nights.
Ten different Vancouver players have accounted for the 11 goals against Calgary. Markus Naslund had two goals and two assists against the Flames, with Daniel Sedin scoring and adding four assists.
The second period has essentially decided at least two of the meetings. Vancouver has outscored Calgary 8-0 in the middle frame this season.
Calgary's Owen Nolan and Matthias Ohlund of the Canucks are both questionable for the game due to neck injuries.
Both clubs face Anaheim in their next action. Calgary visits the Ducks on Saturday, while Vancouver hosts last year's Stanley Cup champions the following night.
