Contest Rules and Regulations

from June 5 to June 21, 2006

1. TO ENTER

We want to know what you think we’ll find on the CBC.ca home page on July 3, 2016. To enter this contest, tell us what will be in the news, and what will be on CBC programming the day CBC.ca turns 20.

The entries can include social commentary, have a satirical bent or just be a prediction of what will be in the news in Canada and around the world in 10 years' time. Stories should be brief and written in the style found on the front page of a news website.

Each entry should include:

  • At least three headlines with lead paragraphs (25-50 words each).
  • At least three other headlines (up to 10 words each).
  • At least two promos for CBC programs or services.

Headlines should include at least four of the following categories:

  • News
  • Business
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Arts
  • Sports
  • Weather

Each entry must include the following information:

  • Contestant’s name
  • Full postal address
  • E-mail address
  • Telephone number
  • Age
  • Type of attachment (if applicable)

Return it with your headlines and news stories at the address below.

Entries can be in text or can be laid out as a graphic. Attachments must be in one of the following formats: Microsoft Word, .pdf, .jpeg, .psd, .gif, .bmp, .png.

Entries sent by Canada Post should be printed on 8 ½ x 11 or 8 ½ x 14 paper.

To be valid, all submissions must be received by June 21, 2006 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). All entries become the property of CBC and will not be returned to contestants. The odds of winning a prize are directly related to the number of entries and the decision of the appointed judging panel.

All texts must be composed by and be the original work of the contestant, and must not violate the rights of any third party. Unless otherwise determined by the provisions of a collective agreement concluded by CBC and a specific talent union, by submitting an entry, contestants assign all rights and waive, all moral rights they may have in their texts. Contestants acknowledge that CBC and its affiliates may publish this text in whole or in part on any medium (radio, television, internet or other), unless otherwise determined without compensation.

Entries deemed to be libelous and slanderous will not be considered.

No purchase required.

All entries must be in English.

2. ELIGIBILITY

Contest is open to all Canadian residents who have reached the age of majority in their province of residenceat the time of entering the contest. Directors, officers and employees of CBC, and their affiliates, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this contest.

3. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES

The contest will be open from June 5-21, 2006. An internal pre-selection committee composed of CBC.ca staff will determine the 10 best entries which will then be forwarded to three judges representing CBC Radio, TV and New Media. They will decide the three winners. Winners will be announced on the CBC.ca 10th Anniversary website on June 30, 2006.

Entries will be judged at all stages of the competition on the creativity and originality of work submitted. Decisions of the judges are final.

The entry judged best based on its creativity and originality will be awarded first place.
The entry judged second best based on its creativity and originality will be awarded second place.
The entry judged third best based on its creativity and originality will be awarded third place.

Winners will be contacted by a representative of CBC during the week of June 26, 2006 and should claim their prizes as instructed by CBC by no later than fourteen (14) days after the date he/she was initially contacted. If the prize is not claimed within the above period, or if a winner cannot be contacted within this period, a new winner will be selected.

4. DESCRIPTION OF PRIZE(S)

The prizes consist of gift packages consisting of merchandise from the CBC Shop chosen by CBC staff. Their retail values will be the amounts indicated below.

First prize: valued at approximately $150 of CBC merchandise

Second prize: valued at approximately $100 of CBC merchandise

Third prize: valued at approximately $50 of CBC merchandise

Total value of all prizes is approximately $300.00.

5. GENERAL RULES

5.1 To be declared a winner, the contestant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.

5.2 Winners shall agree, if necessary, to have their names and/or pictures, including their photographs, and/or their voices used for advertising purposes related to this contest, free of charge.

5.3 Winners shall sign a document attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph 2 of these rules and releasing CBC, its affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize.

5.4 The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, nor sold nor transferred. No substitutions will be allowed.

5.5 If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CBC, its affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, reserve the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value.

5.6 Refusal to accept the prize releases CBC, its affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, of any obligation toward the winner.

5.7 Should winners make any false statement, they shall be automatically disqualified from the contest.

5.8 CBC, its affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.

5.9 CBC, its affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation unforeseeable or beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this contest

5.10 All personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and age is collected solely for the purposes of administering this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent. By providing this information, all contestants consent to it being used for the stated purposes.

5.11 By entering this contest, all contestants agree to abide by the contest rules which shall be applied by the CBC. All its decisions are final.
