An initiative that brings in the crowds!
July 2007
by Youth Cafe
The Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) summer job campaign across Canada offers many activities that promote work for students. Themed days, kiosks in schools, and meetings with potential employers are created to give youth the chance to form links and acquire job search skills.
The Youth Cafe of Montreal (Québec) has made its mark by organizing a big Summer Job Fair that was held on May 10th at Concordia University in downtown Montreal. The event helped students to find summer employment while helping employers to fill their vacant positions.
After a month of preparations, 26 employers and organizations from the private and public sectors responded to our call. The entire team of the SCCY promoted this event by either inviting students to participate in the Fair during group workshops, or by distributing flyers in key sections of the city.
The Summer Job Fair 2007 was a complete success. Besides bringing in more than 1650 students, the Fair help to fill more than 800 jobs! We can all agree that this success has inspired our colleagues from coast to coast!
