Arts Policy Branch

The Arts Policy Branch is responsible for a number of policy-related matters pertaining to professional artists and the arts sector as a whole. In accordance with the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Framework for the Arts, the Branch supports professional not-for-profit organizations through a number of programs that focus on:

• Excellence and diversity in creativity
• Connecting people and the arts
• Sustaining the arts sector

The Arts Development and Programs Directorate deals with questions related to access to the arts by Canadians as well as questions related to excellence and diversity in the arts. It manages the following programs:

• National Arts Training Contribution Program
• Arts Presentation Canada
• Cultural Spaces Canada

The Strategic Arts Support Directorate deals with questions related to the sustainability of the arts sector and is responsible for broad policy development. It oversees the Branch’s research and planning work and is responsible for legislative issues related to the Status of the Artist Act. It manages the following programs:

• Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program
• Cultural Capitals of Canada
