"The main goal of ENICPA is to gather and to make available a broad range of information about the professional performing arts. It is its aim to make all existing information sources accessible all over Europe. This is done by using new information and communication technology which has made the collection and distribution of information quicker, cheaper and easier. By doing this, ENICPA stimulates the use of IT by professional artists and arts activists as it will enable them to access contacts and people without social and geographical restraints. The project is an essential step on the way towards fully interactive use of the WWW by arts professionals. In the long run, as more and more individuals and organisations gradually make more interactive use of the WWW, centralising data will be less important. Instead, sign-posting and mapping on and within the Net and its sites will be the most pressing task. ENICPA, by guiding visitors of its site to other relevant data basis and information and documentation centres is preparing this ground. The architecture of ENICPA's new web site will answer to these needs.
As a non-virtual network of actual information and documentation centres, ENICPA considers itself a think tank both for the development of useful and state-of-the-art tools for arts professionals as well as up-to-date models of exchange and international, pan-European collaboration in the arts. The quality of the information disseminated by ENICPA as well as the availability of it is achieved by the combination of efforts and experiences of its expert members. Their selection of information and the way they distribute it over the Internet gives it an unique quality label recognised by all performing arts professionals in Europe. The further development of the web site in 1999 will mainly focus on improving all interactivity features. This includes feedback from our users, checking the quantity and quality of the searches being done, gathering more information about our users so we can cater better towards their needs."
