"Since its founding in 1965, ADC has grown and changed in response to its members' needs, and is now federally certified to represent designers across Canada (currently with limitations in the province of Quebec) and is recognized by producers and producer associations as the official negotiating body for designers in Canada.
The main goals and objectives of ADC are:
- To protect the professional interests of theatrical designers working within Canada;
- To provide professional assistance to Canadian independent design artists
- To raise professional and public awareness of theatrical design and its role within Canadian theatre;
- To promote theatrical design as an artform and an artistic profession in Canada; and thus
- To significantly contribute to the vitality of the creation, production and presentation of theatre arts in Canada."
