"The cultural sector makes a tremendous artistic, social and economic contribution to the province of Ontario. It includes performing arts, film and television, music and sound recording, visual arts and museums and archives, writing and publishing and new media. It is a growing part of the economy and the labour market of Ontario, and the province hosts a significant percentage of national activity in these fields. It is also a very labour intensive sector. A skilled, innovative and resilient workforce is critical for its continued growth and success. Cultural workers tend to be well-educated, mobile, and self-employed. Their professional development needs are unique and extremely diverse. Only the sector can anticipate those needs, and we have a responsibility to ensure that they are met."
