"The Centre is established in 1998 in response to the need for objective research to inform decision making in the cultural sector. It is currently managing a portfolio of projects with an impact on the North of England, the UK and overseas. It provides also a dynamic range of educational programmes and advisory projects that enhance management capacity in the sector, and engage with practitioners in culture led regeneration as adviser."

"In developing the knowledge, skills and capabilities of the cultural sector through programmes of learning, CCPM: has worked in South Africa with the British Council and the South African Department of Arts and Culture on a two year capacity building programme for cultural management and management training across the country. This incorporated work to establish a Standards Generating Body for the field, and culminated in the development of three Masters Courses in aspects of Cultural Management which will be offered by Wits School of Arts from February 2004. The courses will cover Media Management, Arts and Culture Management and Heritage and Cultural Tourism Management. CCPM is supporting entry level and early development stages learning in cultural management in South Africa and the UK by the creation of an international information bank of standards and qualifications, statements of competencies, curricula and learning materials relevant to Cultural Management. CCPM is part of the successful Knowledge Partnership proposal to provide the national arts management component of the Arts Council of England Continuing Professional Development programme, now known as "Creative People". The first task in which the Centre is involved is the digitisation of Arts Research Digest which is based at Northumbria University. CCPM works closely with the Cultural Management Unit of Northumbria University."
