Knowledge Services for Arts Management

"A new consortium has been formed of organisations already providing knowledge services to the sector. It is called Knowledge Services for Arts Management, and comprises SAM's Books, Arts Professional magazine and Arts Research Digest, along with specialist national associations in the arts, and key Higher Education Institutes who specialise in arts management."

"The purpose of this consortium is to provide a system for the more effective collection, organisation and dissemination of knowledge for arts managers, covering the full range of ideas, information and intelligence.

It is generally agreed by arts managers, arts funders and arts researchers, that while there exists a wealth of information that arts managers would find invaluable in their working lives, they very rarely know about it at the moment they need it, and much of it is not in an easily accessible form. There is a need for a national, accessible, searchable database / website of arts management knowledge.

So the idea at its simplest is to create a Knowledge Bank, which would make available all the arts management related information hidden within back copies of Arts Professional/ArtsBusiness magazine, Arts Research Digest, at the Arts and Cultural Management Studies Unit at Sussex University and at the Centre for Cultural Policy and Management at the University of Northumbria, and organisations such as ITC, Arts Marketing Association, National Rural Touring Forum, and the equivalent organisations for all art forms. It would show summaries of books, reports, articles, and provide contacts for people and projects on any given subject."
