"Although the Office was not formally set up as an independent body until 1969, its origins go back to the Publications Service of the European Coal and Steel Community, which published the Official Journal of the European Coal and Steel Community from 1952 onwards. Since 30 December 2002, therefore, the archives managed by the Office have contained the publishing output of exactly half a century, the first edition of the Official Journal having been published, in four languages (Dutch, French, German and Italian), on 30 December 1952."
