The Artist Workspace Residency: A Guide for Artists

"This publication, one of two guides, is written specifically for individual artists that are considering working on site, in residence, at a workspace facility. Separate factors have contributed to the content provided. It is the result of ongoing work being done by the New York State Artist Workspace Consortium, combined with comments from a guided discussion with a visual artist focus group."

Prev Guides & Case Studies 2 of 2

"The creative process is potentially intense, exhilarating, frustrating, satisfying and often contradictory; there are many considerations when accepting an opportunity to experiment with one’s art. The organizations that comprise the New York State Artists Workspace Consortium have all been established by working artists and remain sensitive to the needs of the individual artists they serve. They strive to improve the programs they ordered, examine ways in which they can expand technical assistance and remain alert to individual needs. It is expected that your experiences on site, either at these organizations or at similar ones, will ultimately be rewarding on personal as well as artistic levels. Though the Consortium’s work is based in the visual arts, the points brought forward are not necessarily discipline specific. Ideas offered here are easily adaptable for performing artists, writers, composers and choreographers. It is with this in mind that the publication has been produced."
