Study of the market for Canadian visual art

"The Department of Canadian Heritage has a mandate to develop strategies and policies to facilitate the growth and development of the arts sector in Canada."

"For the purposes of the study, the Department has determined that this market consists of original works of visual arts – defined to include paintings, sculpture, limited edition prints and drawings. It excludes items such as antiques, crafts, ceramic art, maps, and photographic arts.

The primary objective therefore was to focus on the size and structure of the visual arts market in Canada, and in particular upon the role of commercial art galleries and auction houses in this market and the amount of visual art sold through these channels."
