"Some of the Arts Endowment's accomplishments and funded projects include Since 1990, 39 of the 58 recipients of National Book Awards, National Book Critics Circle Awards, and Pulitzer Prizes in fiction and poetry were awarded Endowment Literature Fellowships, often 10 to 20 years earlier. The Endowment sponsored the design competition for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the most visited tourist attraction in the nation's capital. Responding to national tragedies, the Endowment funded Celebration of Spirit in Oklahoma City and the Healing Power of the Arts at Columbine (Colorado) High School, arts programs that helped participants cope with the trauma of disasters."
