A Review of Canadian Feature Film Policy February 1998

"Despite the successes of the last 30 years, Canadian filmmakers still face formidable odds in bringing their works to movie audiences. The Government of Canada seeks to address this problem by initiating a review of its film policy."

"Canadian film policy has been driven by the belief that culture is important to us as individuals and as a nation. The Government of Canada has developed this discussion paper to initiate a national debate that will assist in the review process. Outlining the public policy context and identifying some of the current issues related to the Canadian film industry and feature films, this paper poses a number of questions and invites comments and submissions from all interested Canadians. The paper is meant to serve as a starting point for discussions – it does not seek to restrict our avenues of examination and review. Given the incompleteness of available data, the paper cannot be considered an exhaustive survey of the industry."
