"The increase of tourists has lead the heritage to be more often exploited than protected. It is even more and more vulnerable given the increasing factors threatening it (Guichen, 2000). The caves of Lascaux had to be closed to the public in 1963. Since then a so-called “cultural tourism” has invaded the market and alternative products are proposed. If many museum professionals see tourists and museum visitors as a source of income, for others, they are also the enemy of the heritage. It is our task as museum educators to convince our public that conservation is not solely a specialists’ task but concerns us all and that with adequate training, mentalities can be changed : the visitor will then become a “PRotecTOR” of the heritage instead of a “PRedaTOR”."
