"The mission of the ERICarts Association is to set up an independent and multinational research institute focused on cultural policy and media developments, cultural education and the status of various arts and media professions and fields. The Association is currently made up of over 70 Research Fellows and co-operating scientific bodies from over 25 countries.
Since the late 1980s, cultural policies and the work of many arts, media and heritage institutions or practitioners faced unprecedented challenges posed by milestone revolutions, events and processes such as the political turn of 1989-1992 in Europe, accelerated globalisation and new international trade regimes, a large-scale introduction of new applications of information and communication technologies and an integrating but at the same time diversifying European marketplace of people, ideas and innovations. These and other trends were increasingly coupled by reduced or stagnating public budgets for culture as well as efforts to re-define and broaden the scope of planning and policy-making for culture, creativity and innovation beyond the arts and artistic work."
