"Culture and heritage are often considered by donors active in the Balkans and even by local government as being lesser importance compared with the huge socio-economic challenges facing the countries of the region. However, this book demonstrates the extent to which they are powerful resources that help communities change their situation by building up their capital - human, economic, social or in other forms. The Living Heritage experience shows that such projects can indeed produce significant outcomes in areas such as social cohesion, economic growth and civil society development while responding to the need of communities to value their own culture and traditions."
