What are the unique issues and opportunities facing Aboriginal creators working with new digital technologies? This was the main question explored at a roundtable held in Toronto on March 22 and 23, 2007, and convened jointly by the Aboriginal Affairs Branch and the Culture and Technology Taskforce at the Department of Canadian Heritage.
A group of Aboriginal people working in television, book and magazine publishing, the visual and performing arts, and the museum sector shared their experiences in working with new media and digital technologies and provided suggestions to Canadian Heritage participants on how to improve support for this type of creative activity. Additional events are planned in the coming months in order to develop a work-plan to strengthen support for Aboriginal cultural and creative industries.
