Oliver Botar, a featured speaker at The 1956 Hungarian Revolution 50 Years Later— Canadian and International Perspectives event, recently held in Ottawa, is a first generation Canadian of Hungarian descent. He currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Manitoba. His academic credentials include a B.A. in Urban Geography, and he is an alumnus of the University of Toronto where he received his M.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in art history. His research primarily focuses on early 20th century Central European Modernism with a focus on Hungary and Germany, and "Biocentrism" and Modernism in early to mid 20th century art and architecture. Widely published, he has organized art exhibitions across Canada. Mr. Botar is currently the recipient of a Standard Research Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
