Susan Pointe is one of Canada’s leading thinkers in the area of Arts and Health.
Currently the art advisor for the University of Alberta Hospital, Susan Pointe directs the McMullen Art Gallery at the University Hospital and the Hospital’s art collection of 1300 original artworks.
Ms. Pointe created the University of Alberta Hospital’s Artists on the Wards program, which employs professional musicians, painters, sculptors, writers, and poets to work one-on-one with adult patients at their bedside.
In 2005, Ms. Pointe collaborated with the Washington, D.C.-based Society for the Arts in Healthcare to produce Partners in Healthcare, the first international conference on the arts in healthcare held in Canada. The event was attended by 450 professionals in medicine, rehabilitative therapies, and the arts.
Ms. Pointe began her career in the heritage sector after having earned a Masters degree from the University of Toronto. She worked with both large and small arts and heritage institutions, including the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Heritage Toronto, the Multicultural History Society of Ontario, and the Royal Ontario Museum.
Susan Pointe has published articles and contributed chapters on museums and social responsibility and the arts in healthcare.
