Dave Barr is a former heritage sector executive who served in middle and senior management roles at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and taught at the University of Toronto. He has managed large budgets and a staff of some 200 museum professionals. He developed many museum policies, especially relating to collections, and established the project management (PM) division and the PM approach to building exhibits and galleries at the ROM. He has served as leader and member of many project teams in the museum environment and has worked with smaller museums as well in the areas of strategic and business planning.
Dave now works in the field of management training and consulting. He is currently Information Systems Associate at the Centre for Cultural Management, University of Waterloo and principal developer of the Centre's new MANAGECULTURE.COM online learning resource. MANAGECULTURE.COM is an online school of mid-career professional development for cultural managers, and its 25 interactive course modules incorporate a number of features of special value to independent learners that are seldom found in university-based online educational environments. Learning topics range from board development to career management, from fundraising to media relations. Dave continues his interest in project management and web applications through guiding teams developing complex, multi-year online projects.
