Collaborative Community Initiatives Speaker Series

This series was created to promote dialogue and knowledge exchange on current issues related to communities and place-based policies. The series will provide an opportunity to deepen understanding and to reflect on effective community development approaches.

The phrase "sustainable community" comes up more and more these days and
ties in with national (and global) efforts aimed at ensuring modern
infrastructure, an improved environment, the health of Canadians and safer communities. Sustainable community planning brings together partners - community members, governments, the private sector and others - to take a more integrated, holistic approach to long-term planning, to support enhanced and ongoing community engagement, and to think beyond geographical boundaries. Through the federal Gas Tax Fund agreements in place in provinces and territories across Canada, municipalities are producing Integrated Community Sustainability Plans (ICSPs).
