"At the 2005 annual conference on Social Theory, Politics and the Arts (October 7, 2005, Eugene, OR), CPANDA's director of research and planning, Larry McGill, delivered a plenary address on "40 Years of Empirical Research on Arts & Cultural Participation and Artists." The presentation was based on a comprehensive review of data sets identified by and, in many cases, available through CPANDA. We gratefully acknowledge LINC - Leveraging Investments in Creativity - for its support in the preparation of this presentation.
Since 1970, CPANDA has identified 35 distinct studies examining arts and cultural participation, as well as 20 studies of artists. The arts participation studies have yielded over 170 data sets on either national or local-level arts participation, of which CPANDA currently holds 117. The studies of artists have produced more than 40 data sets, of which 26 are currently available through CPANDA."
