Studies & Reports 58 of 61
"Audience studies...provide objective data (eg. data about visitors and the visitor experience) for planning and decision-making, replace guesswork about audiences and avoid inaccurate assumptions, reduce error and maximize success in planning, promote efficiency and effectiveness in planning and operations, are a complement to, not a substitute for, the expertise and experience of cultural heritage professionals. Audience study is fundamental to overall planning and business planning, and to the delivery of effective public service. It is a tool to assist cultural heritage professionals in areas such as strategic planning, revenue generation, audience development, marketing, fundraising, policy making, resource development, publicity, lobbying, visitor services, and exhibit, product and program planning. Like any planning tool, its usefulness depends upon the skill, experience and sensitivity of the user. The type, approach, method and focus of an audience study is determined by the needs and purpose of the exercise."
